We have all done it. Wrote a page for our website that sounds a bit too formal, a bit too polished, or worse… like it belongs to someone else entirely.
Because somewhere along the way, we were taught our websites had to impress.
But the truth is:
“Your website is not a brochure. It is a conversation.”
It is not a glossy handout for people to glance at.
It is an ongoing relationship with the person reading.
So if your website feels stiff, vague, or too “professional,” you are not alone. And it is fixable.
What a Brochure Says:
“We offer a range of bespoke solutions to suit your needs.”
“Welcome to our website. We are proud to deliver excellence.”
“Our company is committed to providing high-quality service.”
What a Conversation Sounds Like:
“I help people who feel overwhelmed by their website find clarity and calm.”
“Not sure where to start? Let us take a look together.”
“Here is how I can help and what it is like to work with me.”
Ask Yourself:
Would I say this out loud in a conversation?
Would my best client feel welcome reading this?
Am I showing personality or hiding behind perfect words?
✅ Try This Today: A Mini Rewriting Moment
Pick one sentence from your homepage or About page. Just one.
Now read it out loud.
Does it sound like you?
If not, rewrite it like you were chatting to someone you really want to help.
Example:
❌ “I provide tailored coaching packages for female entrepreneurs.”
✅ “I help women in business untangle their ideas and turn them into content that works.”
Small tweaks build a stronger connection.
